Game of Thrones series is returning
HBO has announced the release dates for two series set in the Game of Thrones universe. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, originally scheduled for 2025 but postponed, will now premiere in 2026. The new season of House of the Dragon will also premiere that year.
Game of Thrones returns
HBO President Casey Bloys told the press that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere in January 2026. House of the Dragon’s third season will not premiere in time for the Emmys.
This means the series will premiere after May 2026. Previous reports indicated the new season would premiere in June 2026.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on George R.R. Martin’s Dunk & Egg books, takes place approximately 100 years before the events of the original series. The series follows the adventures of the legendary knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg.
Egg, whose real name is Aegon V Targaryen, is one of the Targaryen family’s claimants to the throne. The series provides a detailed look at their journeys through Westeros and the Westeros order before the wars.
The release of these two series in the same year was an exciting development for Game of Thrones fans. HBO continues its strategy of expanding the universe with spin-offs following the successful main series.
House of the Dragon garnered significant attention for its portrayal of the Targaryen Dynasty’s civil war. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, on the other hand, takes a different tone, focusing on the personal journeys of the two main characters. This enriches the Game of Thrones universe with its diverse storytelling styles.
