Following last week’s major model upgrade, Google’s AI assistant, Gemini Live, is now back with a significant update that improves the user experience. This “quality of life” update specifically enhances the captioning experience.
Two-Sided Transcripts Now on a Single Screen
When Gemini Live introduced captioning in June, only Gemini’s response was transcribed on the screen. Users had to leave the chat and view the full transcript to verify their understanding.

Now, tapping the caption button in the top-right corner of the screen displays the transcripts of both “You” and “Gemini” simultaneously. This feature offers a convenient way to ensure Google understands you correctly and to correct any potential misunderstandings before proceeding with the response. Captions are currently limited to three lines, and the box cannot be moved. The feature is available to all Android users today.
Meanwhile, launching Gemini’s “Search Live” feature, located under “AI Mode,” is now easier. When the Google app is opened, in addition to the shortcut below the Search bar or the launch option within a conversation, “Live” mode can now be set directly in the Search home screen widget. This convenience follows the recent introduction of “floating controls.”
In another related development, Google is reportedly testing a prominent “Nano Banana” emoji icon at the top of the Discover feed. This eye-catching emoji replaces the Lens shortcut that takes users directly to screenshots and images on their devices. With these small but noticeable changes to the interface, Google aims to increase user engagement.
