Social media is among the indispensable parts of the internet, especially for generation Z. But which social media applications are most used? In the research conducted in the USA, the application most used by Generation Z was surprising. Contrary to predictions, TikTok is not first.
The most used social media application by Generation Z has been revealed
Generation Z, the first generation born into the internet, has increasingly begun to have a say on the internet. In this sense, the social media most used by Generation Z in the USA was Snapchat with 51 percent. TikTok, which has the most users in recent years, ranks second on the list with 44.7 percent.
The shared list includes how much each generation uses which application. Although total usage rates are not included in the list, Generation Z today numbers around 68 million in the USA. In this sense, the biggest impact on the usage rates of social media belongs to this young generation.
In the list, Instagram ranked third with 33.7 percent, and X ranked fourth with 32.6 percent. However, the most interesting aspect of the research was intergenerational social media preferences. Accordingly, Generation Y mostly uses Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Generation X uses Facebook, WhatsApp and X the most. It comes right behind X on Reddit. The generation born between 1946 and 1964, called Baby Boomer, uses Facebook and YouTube the most.
On the other hand, as a result of the research, although it is not stated numerically how much each platform is used, the number of people using social media in the USA is 302 million. In this sense, 91 percent of the country is social media user. 74.2 percent of these users are Facebook users. Although Facebook is still the most used social media application, only 17.4 percent of the young generation actively uses Facebook.
When we examine the table, we see that YouTube appeals to each generation at similar rates. It turns out that TikTok and Snapchat appeal mostly to young people, while Instagram and X appeal to both young and middle-aged people. Netflix and Disney Plus appeal to the young and middle-aged segment at a similar rate.
