Google has quietly launched a significant update for the Play Store. Users can now purchase not only app or game credits through the Google Play Store, but also digital gift cards from many popular brands. This new feature makes the Play Store a much more comprehensive platform for gifting. This “digital gift card store” has been added to the store and is designed to accommodate a wide range of brands.
A major update from the Google Play Store: Starbucks and Disney gift cards will now be sold
Thanks to this new system, Google Play has added major companies outside of its ecosystem to its store. Users can now access digital gift cards from well-known brands such as Disney, Starbucks, Adidas, AMC, American Eagle, and Athleta directly from the Play Store app. This move is notable as part of the Play Store’s strategy to transform from an app store into a marketplace catering to diverse digital needs.

This new feature was first noticed by the Droid Life team. The team reported an email from Google titled “Important Update on Play: You Can Now Buy Gift Cards.” To access this new gift card store, users can search for “gift cards” in the Play Store app. A special banner that appears as a result of the search takes users directly to the store. Alternatively, they can tap their profile icon and select “Gift Cards” from the menu that opens.
The purchasing process is quite simple. After entering the store, users select their desired brand and the monetary value of the gift card. They can then add a personal note to the card and send it digitally directly to the recipient via email or phone number. This method offers a quick and convenient gifting option, especially for special occasions.
Google Play’s new digital gift card store is currently available in a limited number of regions. Currently, the feature is only available to users in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Mexico. There are also region-specific daily purchase limits. For example, users in the US can purchase a maximum of $250 worth of digital gift cards per day. No official information has yet been released regarding when this feature will be available in the Turkish market.
What are your thoughts on this new feature Google has added to the Play Store? If it becomes available in Turkey, would you prefer to purchase gift cards from other brands through the Play Store?
