This two-part quest is available for free to all Pokémon Go players during the Max Finale event. To unlock it, you must log in between 10am and 6pm (local time) on either Saturday, August 23rd or Sunday, August 24th. Miss that window, and the quest disappears for good.

- Defeat Eternamax Eternatus in a Max Battle – 3 Golden Razz Berries
Completion rewards: 8 Grookey Candy XL, 8 Scorbunny Candy XL, and 8 Sobble Candy XL
Step 2 of 2

Completion rewards: 8,900 XP and 8,900 Stardust
Be sure to finish both steps before 6 pm on Sunday, or you’ll miss out on these limited-time items.
How Go Fest Max Finale Timed Research works
Once you log in during the event, the Go Fest Max Finale Timed Research quest should appear automatically. If it doesn’t, try restarting the app. This quest functions like most others in Pokémon Go, with tasks to complete in sequence for tiered rewards.
Why you should complete this timed research
This particular research line is essential if you plan on facing off against Eternamax Eternatus. The Max Particles and Candy XL you earn will be valuable for powering up key Pokémon and progressing through the event.
Alongside the quest, you’ll also want to keep an eye on:
- Max Battles now featuring Dynamax Pokémon
- Event raids and spawn boosts
- Power Spot interactions to gather Max Particles
- Other quests like To the Max! and Routes features
Don’t let Go Fest Max Finale Timed Research expire
Timed Research means just that—it ends when the event does. Make sure you’ve completed both quest steps by 6pm local time on Sunday, August 24th, or you’ll lose access to the rewards. If you want to catch Eternatus and take full advantage of Max Finale, this quest is non-negotiable.
