Apple is expected to hold its Scary Fast event in the coming days and introduce new Mac models. Leaks 3 days before the launch revealed that the company is working on low-cost 12-inch and 13-inch MacBook models.
Affordable 12-13 inch MacBook with M2 ‘lite’ chip
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently reported that Apple wants to offer affordable Macs to boost Mac sales. New information from China indicates that Apple is designing entry-level MacBooks. These 12-inch and 13-inch versions will be even cheaper than the iPhone 14 series, with a price tag of $700.
Early indications suggest that Apple is targeting the affordable market and wants to compete with Chromebooks. The company aims to make Mac devices accessible for both student and office use.
The rumored 12-inch and 13-inch versions will have a similar design to the 12-inch laptop that was discontinued in 2019. However, the company will make some tweaks to the design by shrinking the screen bezels, similar to modern devices.
The low-cost MacBook is likely to be powered by a reduced-power version of the M2. This will allow the older 12-inch MacBooks to be more powerful than Intel Core M processors, despite the lower price tag.
Although not yet official, the news that the 12-inch and 13-inch MacBooks will be priced below $700 suggests that the Mac lineup will open up to more users. It should not be forgotten that these models can be around 20 thousand TL minimum due to the dollar exchange rate.
