Google has expanded its AI-powered search experience, adding new tools to its AI Mode feature. The company announced the integration of the Gemini 2.5 Pro model and its Deep Search system into AI Mode. This new AI search feature, which can call businesses on behalf of users and gather pricing and availability information, has also been released.
Google AI has begun calling businesses and gathering pricing information.
AI Mode is at the core of Google’s next-generation search approach, which it announced earlier this year and rolled out to all US users in May. The newly added Gemini 2.5 Pro model generates more intelligent and personalized answers to user needs, while the Deep Search tool provides more contextual and insightful search results. These two features are now built directly into AI Mode and work integrated with it.

Another significant development announced by Google is the ability for AI Mode to make phone calls on behalf of users. Developed as part of Project Astra, this feature allows the system to automatically call local businesses and gather answers to specific questions.
For example, users no longer need to call the business themselves to inquire about prices, availability, and service details for places like pet groomers, restaurants, or locksmith services.
During the call, the system activates with an option like “Let AI check prices” and calls the relevant business to gather information on the user’s behalf. The information gathered during the call is then presented to the user. This new feature is available throughout the US starting today. The high processing capacity and broad search limits are only available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Businesses have been granted the right to opt out of this automated calling system. They can manually opt out through their Google Business accounts. They can also perform actions during the call with a direct command such as “Remove my business from this system.” Google states that calls will only be made during daylight hours and will not be initiated late or early. All conversations are recorded for quality and security purposes.
In previous test calls conducted with this system, Google’s voice AI was observed to speak quite naturally and fluently, using polite language and expressing English clearly. However, some businesses may let these calls go unanswered because the caller ID is not visible. Despite this, Google considers AI’s ability to directly engage in human-like conversations a significant step forward for the future of its search engine.
