According to allegations, Google is paying some publishers significant amounts to write news using its artificial intelligence tools. These deals, costing the company hundreds of thousands of dollars annually, are believed to have been made under the Google News Initiative (GNI) initiative, which was launched six years ago.
While the initiative ostensibly aims to increase media literacy and public trust in communication tools, the initiation of an ethically questionable artificial intelligence activity has drawn criticism from many. Here are all the details…
Google pours wealth into AI content!
It is said that the artificial intelligence tools, currently used only by a small group of publishers, are still in the beta stage. These tools are claimed to be capable of compiling numerous original content pieces published online about a topic and creating a news article.
If this claim is true, it seems that the pieces are falling into place in the publishing world. Writers, who are required to share an average of three separate articles per day under the agreement, are reported to earn more than $10,000 annually. For the struggling publishing industry, such a side job would be quite appealing.
However, it is not disclosed in any way that the content published after a quite detailed process is assisted by artificial intelligence. Some argue that this situation will increasingly blur the lines between original content and AI.
Google management, claiming to have embarked on this path entirely with good intentions, seems to aim at ensuring that current news content with a broad readership is written by artificial intelligence. In this way, the company could have yet another steady stream of income.
