Google has announced a new AI feature in Chrome that automatically summarizes articles and websites for users. With this change, one of ChatGPT’s popular features will be integrated into Chrome.
Google Chrome will summarize pages with AI
Google announced a tool called Search Generative Experience (SGE) earlier this year. SGE, which promises an AI-based search experience, is getting an important innovation in Chrome. Google will read and summarize pages for you thanks to the feature offered to Chrome’s mobile apps.
According to Google’s statement, using page summarization is quite simple. After searching Google and tapping on a news/article link, users will see a new icon at the bottom of the screen. If you click on this icon, a menu will appear summarizing the main information in the article.
An AI-generated “key points menu” will briefly summarize information on a website for you. The new feature will only work on publicly available research papers and websites; it will not be possible to summarize paid content.
Google will also issue an AI warning to users. It will emphasize that the summaries are entirely AI-generated and will not include comments from people who read or summarize the articles.
The article summarization feature will be available starting this week for Android and iOS users in the SRI program. It is expected to come to the desktop version of Chrome in the next few days. Google said that user feedback on SSI has been very positive so far.
