Google has introduced a significant update to Gemini’s Deep Research mode, its AI-powered research tool. With the new integration, Gemini can now create much more comprehensive research reports and analyses by leveraging users’ Gmail, Drive, and Google Chat content. Google identified this integration as one of the most requested features by users.
Google Gemini Receives Update
Gemini’s Deep Research mode, instead of simply answering simple questions, creates a multi-step plan. It then scans the internet extensively and creates custom reports for the user. Users can export these in-depth reports to Google Docs or convert them into AI-generated podcasts.

According to Google, this new connection fully integrates Gemini directly into the Workspace ecosystem. For example, when a team is conducting a market analysis for a new product, Deep Research can analyze team members’ brainstorming documents, email threads, and project plans to create a holistic assessment.
Similarly, comparative reports can be created that analyze public data about a competitor’s product alongside the company’s own strategy files and team conversations.
When a user activates the “deep research” option in the Gemini interface, the system first prompts them to select which sources (Google Search, Gmail, Drive, and Chat) to use. After this confirmation, Gemini can use information in emails, documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and PDFs in Drive, and conversations in Chat as contextual data.
This feature, currently available only on desktop, will be available on mobile devices in the coming days, according to Google. While the company did not provide detailed information about user data security, it did state that Gemini’s access to these specific sources will be enabled entirely with user consent.
