Apple’s AI voice assistant, Siri, has started providing more advanced responses with the help of Apple Intelligence. However, the tech giant seems to want to expand its AI options, not just relying on OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This goal, mentioned by Craig Federighi at WWDC24, has been further clarified by a recent leak. It appears that Siri may soon receive support from Google’s Gemini model as well. Here are the details:
Apple Intelligence to Include Google Gemini
In the latest iOS 18.4 beta version, updates to the system’s background code caught attention. According to Aaron Perris, known for his discoveries in code reviews, Apple Intelligence now includes options for both “Google” and “OpenAI” AI models. This strongly suggests that Apple is preparing to integrate Google’s Gemini model into Siri.

At the WWDC24 event, Apple’s software chief Craig Federighi mentioned that they did not want to limit Siri to just ChatGPT and were considering incorporating different AI models. Now, it seems these words are coming to life. However, it’s still unclear whether this integration will be available in iOS 18.4 or later versions such as iOS 18 or iOS 19.
Google recently unveiled its Gemini 2.0 models, which feature advanced logical reasoning capabilities, and these models are highly likely to be used on iPhones. However, this feature may not be available on all iPhone models. According to current leaks, AI integrations supported by Apple Intelligence will only work on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, and iPhone 16 Pro models. Additionally, the iPhone 16e model may also support this feature.
Apple is also expected to release a more advanced Siri model with iOS 19. Therefore, Apple Intelligence is expected to become significantly more capable in the coming months. While the official announcement of the Google Gemini integration is still pending, it’s clear that Apple will bring a major innovation to its ecosystem in terms of AI.
