Google is one of the richest companies in the world and generates billions of dollars in revenue every year. However, this does not mean that it will not cut budgets for some of its services. Apparently, a budget cut decision has been made for the company’s smart TV platform Google TV.
Google cut Google TV’s budget by 10 percent
According to The Information, budget cuts are in question for Google TV. Here, it is reported that the company made a 10 percent cut. Unfortunately, this decision also brought about some layoffs in the Google TV area.

Sources did not give a clear number of layoffs at the moment. However, it is said that the team consists of approximately 300 people and with the latest decision, a quarter of them have been laid off. This seems like a critical situation when we consider that the total budget set for Google TV is approximately $500 million and there is a 10 percent cut.
For those who do not know, Google TV is a smart TV platform supported by major brands such as Hisense and TCL. Time will tell how these budget cuts will affect these major partnerships.
Of course, this decision should not be interpreted as the company completely abandoning Google TV. Because Google made the following statements in its statement on the subject;
“We continue to invest in Google TV with new user experiences, including the upcoming integration of Gemini. There are over 270 million Android TV devices and we are committed to growing this ecosystem with an exciting roadmap ahead of us.”
Google’s statement focuses specifically on the Gemini integration. If all goes well, the company will integrate the artificial intelligence model into the platform this year. This will make it easier for users to communicate with the devices.
