Google has made its new artificial intelligence tool, which works in a terminal environment, available to developers. The tool, called Gemini CLI, has been released as open source and is freely available. Based on Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro model, this new system allows developers to write code with natural language commands, run commands, debug, and explain code directly from the terminal.
Google unveils Gemini CLI
Gemini CLI can process a wide range of information thanks to its context window of one million tokens. Developers can easily access Google’s other artificial intelligence services through this tool.

These include functions such as video production with Veo 3, visual production with Imagen, advanced research with Deep Research, and accessing up-to-date information through Google Search, in addition to Jules and Gemini Code Assist. The tool can also connect to MCP servers and access external databases.
Gemini CLI has been shared as open source on GitHub with the Apache 2.0 license. Google has invited the developer community to contribute to this tool. According to the limits set in the free usage, users can process up to 60 queries per minute and 1,000 queries per day. According to Google, this limit is twice as much as similar tools.
The new tool has entered direct competition in the field of AI-powered developer solutions. It is placed in the same category as OpenAI’s Codex CLI, Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot and Anthropic’s Claude Code. So what do you think about this?
