Google removes popular cleaning applications!
For a while now, Google has been fighting against malicious software for its users. Especially recently, this growing issue has been frustrating users. However, today it has been revealed that the company has taken a step towards tackling unnecessary applications and malicious software.
According to the news, Google has removed many applications used for phone cleaning with the aim of purging malicious software from the Play Store. Sometimes, legitimate applications also face issues due to the automated removal mechanism on the Play Store. To prevent this, Google stated that it has removed many popular cleaning applications from the store.
The developers of the removed applications shared their situations on Reddit. In their statements, they mentioned being suddenly removed from the Play Store and having their accounts terminated. Particularly, the removal of the popular SD Maid application is attributed to Google’s “Stalkerware policy violation.”
According to the developers, the removed applications do not contain any feature that would allow them to track user privacy and data. Furthermore, the developers state that Google cited the same reason for removing most cleaning applications.
Despite all of this, although there is no definite reason, words such as “modify,” “detect,” “browse,” and “search” in cleaning applications might have triggered Play Protect bots. However, it’s currently uncertain whether the removed applications were actually tracking user data.
