Google is introducing an important new feature in Android 15 to improve performance: 16 KB page size option. While only 4 KB page size was supported in previous Android versions, with this new option, users will be able to choose a larger page size to improve system performance.
Performance boost with Android 15: 16 KB page size option is coming
According to Google, enabling a 16 KB page size on Android 15 resulted in a 5% to 10% increase in overall system performance. However, this increase comes at a price: Memory usage increases by about 9%. So, in exchange for more memory usage, you will get a faster and more efficient Android experience.
This new feature gives Android users a choice; they can choose between a 4 KB or 16 KB page size. The 16 KB page size may reduce app launch times, especially when the system is under pressure on memory. For example, in some tested apps, boot times were up to 30% faster. Enabling this option also reduces the device’s power consumption by 4.56%.
The opening time of the camera app also speeds up with this new page size. There is a 4.48% improvement in hot startup speed and a 6.60% improvement in cold startup speed. In addition, the overall system boot time has been reduced by an average of 1.5% (approximately 0.8 seconds).
This innovation with Android 15 offers an attractive option, especially for performance-oriented users. However, it remains to be seen how this performance increase, which comes with higher memory usage, will affect the overall user experience of the devices.
