Google and Xreal have announced a new smart glasses project called Project Aura, which will be the second device of the Android-based mixed reality (XR) platform. Introduced at the Google I/O 2025 event, Project Aura is the first device in the form of glasses developed on the Android XR platform.
Google is here with Project Aura smart glasses
While the first Android XR product announced before, Samsung’s Project Moohan, was in the form of a headset, Project Aura was designed as a wearable glasses that directly follows Xreal’s previous products.

Project Aura falls into the category of “optical transition XR”. This technology allows users to both see virtual content and watch their surroundings at the same time. Like devices such as Xreal One, which Xreal previously launched, Project Aura will offer the user a field of view large enough to give them a cinematic experience.
The device’s render images show that it is designed in the form of sunglasses and that there are cameras on the hinge and nose bridge. There are also microphones and physical control buttons on the frame.
The new smart glasses will have Google’s artificial intelligence model Gemini built-in. This means that the glasses will actively work with AI support in many tasks, from voice commands to content management. Google positions Gemini as the cornerstone of XR devices.
Project Aura will work with a Qualcomm chipset optimized specifically for XR. However, it has not yet been announced which processor will be used in the device.
