Google has started to offer its AI-powered photo search tool Ask Photos to more users. After observing how the feature was used during the early access period, the company made significant improvements in terms of both performance and scope.
Google has expanded the Ask Photos tool
The system, which has successfully met complex demands such as searching for images that fit the background of the phone or finding meals eaten in past trips, has now been developed to provide faster answers for simple queries.

Ask Photos can produce answers that understand the context and are not based solely on visual tagging using Google’s Gemini model. However, user feedback during the early access period showed that the system was slow for simple searches (such as “beach” or “dogs”) and lagged behind the classic Google Photos search.
Taking this into account, Google integrated its classic photo search infrastructure into Ask Photos. Now, users get instant results for simple queries, while the Gemini model continues to run in the background and performs in-depth analysis for more complex searches. In this way, both fast access and advanced AI answers come together in the same interface.
The developed system has been removed from the early access label and has begun to be offered to a wider user base in the US. Google emphasizes the importance of feedback to improve the user experience and the system is expected to be further expanded in the future.
