Google’s recent surge in phones bursting into flames while charging has raised questions in users’ minds. The company even issued a mandatory software update that reduced battery performance for some of its models. Recent developments suggest the company has made a critical decision regarding the issue.
Google halts sales of refurbished Pixel 6a devices following controversial battery update
As is well known, a battery issue in some Pixel 6a devices was causing the phones to overheat and catch fire. As a precaution, Google distributed a mandatory software update that reduced battery capacity and charging speed on the affected devices. Models that received the mandatory update were even offered free battery replacements.

As a result of these developments, Google has decided to discontinue sales of the Pixel 6a through its refurbished store.
As is well known, the Google Store sells discounted refurbished Pixel phones, including the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series. These devices are available for hundreds of dollars less than their original retail price, and the Pixel 6a was also on this list until recently.
Google has completely removed the refurbished Pixel 6a from its store. The phone was previously priced at $249, making it the most cost-effective way to buy a Pixel phone with a warranty directly from Google.
The Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro remain unchanged.
