In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Google Maps has published special lists of the most viewed locations by users around the world. These lists, which cover a wide range from historical landmarks to natural beauties, from tourist attractions to museums, bring together the places that people most want to visit or examine the details to discover.
Google Maps shared the most analysed locations!
Launched in 2005, Google Maps is today more than just a mapping application, it has become an indispensable guide in the daily lives of users around the world.

More than 2 billion people use Google Maps every month to get directions, discover new places, get up-to-date information and share their experiences. Every year, more than 500 million users add comments, photos and ratings, helping to keep the platform constantly evolving.
Google has created a list that analyses the interests of users by determining the most reviewed places from around the world for its 20th anniversary. This list, like Google’s annual ‘Search Trends of the Year’, highlights the places that people are curious about and want to explore.
In the analysis conducted in Turkey, 60 different locations from 15 cities including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Antalya made it to the list. The list includes a wide range of categories from historical and cultural sites to parks and nature areas.
Among the most examined places in Turkey, landmarks such as Galata Tower, Anıtkabir, Basilica Cistern, Pamukkale Travertines, Side Ancient City and Ephesus Ancient City stood out. In the parks category, Gülhane Park, Emirgan Grove, Güvenpark and Saklıkent National Park were the most remarkable locations, while Topkapı Palace, Mevlana Museum, Miniatürk, Göbeklitepe, Rahmi Koç Museum and Istanbul Archeological Museums were among the most examined museums.
For 20 years, Google Maps has not only provided users with the opportunity to explore, but has also become an indispensable part of daily life. As of 2024, the platform offered a total of 1 trillion kilometres of directions to its users.
This distance is equivalent to the earth rotating around the sun 1000 times. There are 250 million businesses and venues listed on Google Maps, and visiting all these places corresponds to a time period of 28,500 years, even if you go to a place every hour.
Every year, 500 million people contribute to the platform, adding comments, photos and ratings. Google Maps is updated 100 million times every day and thousands of new information is added to the map every second. These lists, specially prepared for the 20th anniversary of Google Maps, reveal the travelling and exploration habits of users and show the interest in tourist attractions. While creating the lists, the places with the most comments and the highest rated places on Google Maps were taken into consideration.
