Users of the Google Maps Android app now have a feature that was previously exclusive to iOS. This innovation, which comes as part of the latest update of Google Maps, provides users with valuable weather information while navigating.
Google Maps on Android gets real-time weather updates integrated into the app
The new feature, first reported by 9to5Google, can be seen as a small rectangular box in the left corner of the screen, just below the search bar.
In this box, users will be able to find basic weather data such as current temperature, weather conditions and the air quality index (AQI) for their area.
Similar to its iOS counterpart, the weather widget on Google Android dynamically updates as users explore different areas on the map. The widget also disappears when users interact with other elements on the screen, allowing for an unobstructed view of the map.
For more comprehensive weather details, tapping the weather box reveals a detailed card. This card not only shows the current temperature and weather conditions, but also daily highs and lows, hourly forecasts and AQI. Furthermore, by tapping on the AQI value, users can access the air quality map layer and learn about local air quality conditions.
Although this feature is not available to all users immediately, it will be gradually rolled out after the latest update. What do you think? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
