Google Messages will allow you to chat with Gemini. With this new feature, you’ll be able to draft messages, generate ideas, plan events, or just have a fun chat.
How will Google Messages Gemini integration work?
Gemini will appear as a new conversation in Google Messages. Google Messages Gemini is powered by Gemini 1.0 Pro, which was previously used on different devices and has been adapted to offer less robotic responses for phones.
In addition to creating text, Gemini will also be able to create images given a specific request. It will also support Gemini Extensions, providing access to Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive and Docs), Maps, Flights, Flights, Hotels and YouTube. You’ll also be able to upload and query images with Google Messages Gemini, but voice notes are disabled in these chats.
Sample requests include:
-I haven’t contacted my friend in a long time, help me design a short message to reconnect and check in.
-Suggest an impressive but simple 3 course dinner menu for someone who cooks. Make it vegetarian.
-I’m going to a social event where I know almost no one. Suggest some interesting conversation starters.
To rate Gemini replies, simply long press on a reply. The conversation with Gemini takes place over RCS, but there is no end-to-end encryption. So, you are only interacting with Google.
When you turn off Gemini App Activity, chats are only stored for 72 hours. The feature will start this week in open beta for a small percentage of users. To use it, you’ll need to sign up for the Google Messages beta and be over 18.
