Google now removes password for use with passkeys

Ana sayfa / Security

Google is making a major change to the way users sign in to their accounts. Starting today, Google will ask all users to use a passkey instead of a password as the default login method. So what is a passkey and how to use it?

Google accounts will be logged in with passkey instead of password

Passkeys aims to replace passwords by leveraging biometric authentication or PINs that users set in advance. With Passkeys, accounts will be stored on the user’s device and thus cryptographically stored.

With Google’s new decision, users will have to authenticate with a fingerprint, facial recognition or PIN instead of a password to log in. This will make the sign-in process both easier and more secure.

The most important point for Passkeys is that the keys are unique to accounts. This prevents a potential breach on one site from blocking other services.

Google pays Apple astronomical fees! Here’s why

Google makes payments to Apple in order to become the dominant search engine on iPhones. Details about these payments have emerged.

Google stated that passkeys are resistant to attacks such as phishing and are safer than single-use codes. Even if a website is hacked, the passkey will not be able to access users’ other information.

Making passkeys the default means that Google accounts will be opened with a passkey unique to each device. However, users can continue to use passwords by changing their account settings.
