Google is entering into a long-term collaboration with TSMC in semiconductor manufacturing. The company chose Taiwan-based manufacturer TSMC instead of Samsung for its next-generation Tensor G5 chipset. Tensor G5 will be the first TSMC-made processor that Google will use in its smartphones and tablets.

With this change, Tensor G4 is expected to be the last Google chipset produced by Samsung. Google’s decision was influenced by Samsung’s production efficiency problems in the 3nm GAA process.

The time loss and high costs the company faced created sustainability problems in its production processes. For this reason, Google started working with TSMC, which is also preferred by major technology companies such as Qualcomm, Apple and MediaTek.
It was learned that Google executives visited Taiwan in the last week of May to hold talks with TSMC. It was stated that an agreement was on the agenda during the talks that would extend the cooperation of the two companies for up to five years.
It is stated that Tensor G5 will be included in the Pixel 10 series, which is expected to be introduced in the last quarter of 2025. This alliance between Google and TSMC may also shape the long-term chip strategy of the Pixel series.
According to the latest information, TSMC’s third-generation 3nm production process, N3P technology, will be used in many flagship processors this year. The company started collecting orders for the 2nm process in April. TSMC will strengthen its leadership in chip production with this move.
