Google is known for celebrating pop culture moments with creative easter eggs, and the release of Squid Game Season 2 is no exception. To mark the occasion, the search giant has introduced a mini-game inspired by the series’ first and most iconic challenge, “Red Light, Green Light.” Here are the details…
Google’s ‘Red Light, Green Light’ game
Searching for “Squid Game” or “Red Light, Green Light” on Google brings up a floating invitation card reminiscent of the one seen in the series. Clicking or tapping the card launches a fullscreen mini-game based on the iconic challenge from Season 1. The game, available on both desktop and mobile, is a nostalgic nod to the show’s first and deadliest competition, where the largest number of contestants were eliminated.
Players control six characters and must move them forward while Younghee, the eerie robotic doll, isn’t looking. Movement is controlled using “Go” and “Stop” buttons at the bottom of the screen. Just like in the show, stopping in time is crucial to avoid getting caught. The game is accompanied by the haunting soundtrack that adds to the atmosphere, though you can mute the sound if preferred.
Unlike the brutal eliminations in Squid Game, Google’s version keeps things lighthearted, making it a fun way to spend a few minutes during the holiday season. The mini-game is part of Google’s tradition of marking cultural milestones with interactive features.
Season 2 of Squid Game premiered on December 26, more than three years after the first season took the world by storm. The new season features seven binge-worthy episodes and sets the stage for a final season expected in 2025. The decision to release it right after Christmas is a thematic nod to giving fans something to savor during the holidays.
