Google’s artificial intelligence assistant, Bard, might not boast the snappiest moniker, yet its affiliation with tech titan Google places it firmly on the AI map alongside heavyweights like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Bing Chat. Recently, Google unveiled fresh updates to Bard during its significant I/O event, improving the AI’s capabilities.
Fresh off the press: Google Bard updates
Starting off, Bard users now enjoy the privilege of exporting Bard conversation snippets directly to Google Docs and Gmail. Picture the convenience of this feature while requesting Bard to draft a presentation outline for subsequent collaboration on Google Docs, or needing assistance crafting an essential email. Simply select the share icon on Bard’s response and designate the desired export destination.
The spotlight then turns to Bard’s fresh dark mode support, an announcement that drew applause from the I/O attendees. This feature isn’t hidden away; a “Use dark theme” button is easily located at the screen’s bottom-left corner, allowing you to alternate between modes.
Google further extends Bard’s accessibility to Workspace accounts instead of limiting it to standard Google Accounts, with Workspace administrators gaining the authority to activate Bard support.
Upgraded abilities and source citation
Further upgrades introduced on Monday include Bard’s improved summarizing skills, courtesy of advancements in Google’s expansive language models. In a significant move towards transparency, Bard now cites its sources. The appearance of numbers within a response indicating a source lets you directly click and view that source, thereby facilitating easy fact-checking and ensuring Bard’s accuracy.
Hop on board: How to get Bard access
Previously, Bard access was strictly by waitlist. However, Google has now opened the doors for anyone to test Bard, provided they are at least 18 years old and own a Google Account or a Bard-enabled Workspace account. To embark on your Bard journey, visit Google’s official Bard site and click on “Try Bard.”
