Take-Two, known as one of the leading companies in the gaming industry, seems determined to further strengthen its reputation with its recent moves. The parent company of GTA producer Rockstar has now acquired Borderlands studio Gearbox from Embracer Group.
GTA maker Take-Two buys Borderlands maker Gearbox for $460 million
This deal made a big impact in the gaming world because Gearbox is an important studio known especially for the Borderlands series.
The Borderlands series has become a franchise that has won the love of millions of gamers and shaped the industry. It’s even being made into a TV series. Not to mention the active development of Borderlands 4.
With this acquisition, GTA owner Take-Two Interactive has acquired not only popular franchises like Borderlands and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, but also important game series like Homeworld, Risk of Rain, Brothers in Arms and Duke Nukem. This is a big step for the company to diversify its portfolio and gain an even stronger position in the gaming industry.
Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford said that teaming up with Take-Two will help Take-Two take their company to the next level. He said he trusts Take-Two and 2K’s commitment to supporting creativity and achieving success, and is excited to see what they can accomplish together.
On the other hand, Embracer Group remains in a strong position after this sale. Gearbox’s holdings include key companies such as Lost Boys, which are expected to make significant contributions to Embracer.
The game industry seems to have entered an exciting period. While Take-Two’s acquisition of Gearbox has increased competition in the industry, Embracer’s strong position with the assets it holds seems to increase diversity and competition in the industry.
