While the gaming world eagerly anticipated the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, a surprise twist has emerged from the community. A modding group is currently in the development phase of a project that promises to revitalize the iconic GTA Vice City using the GTA 5 engine.
The Grand Theft Auto series recently made waves with the late 2023 release of GTA 6. Rockstar Games had set high expectations from the get-go, and now, players have taken a surprising initiative. A team of mod developers, known as Revolution Team, is rolling up their sleeves to work on GTA: Vice City Remastered.

This ambitious project will utilize the RAGE engine from GTA 5 to completely overhaul the entire Vice City experience. Known as GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition, this mod aims to significantly enhance graphic quality and modernize gameplay. According to shared details, every aspect of the game, including missions, maps, characters, and vehicles, will undergo a redesign.
While maintaining authenticity in character and pedestrian models, the mod will also introduce improvements to textures. Additionally, enhancements are expected in environmental details such as particle effects and lighting.
In terms of content, no major changes are anticipated. Revolution Team has committed to preserving all the classic radio stations and remaining true to the original cutscenes. They even hinted at tackling the controversial Definitive Edition that stirred significant debate within the gaming community.
Slated for release in 2025, GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition will be available as a mod for GTA 5. Interestingly, it appears unlikely to encounter legal issues with Take-Two, given that it will be a mod utilizing Rockstar’s officially released RAGE engine. Fans of the series and newcomers alike are buzzing with excitement as this beloved classic prepares to make a grand return with a contemporary twist.
