Hogwarts Legacy, a game that shook the gaming world, has achieved massive commercial success, surpassing 40 million sales in the nearly three years since its release. This official data, announced by Warner Bros. Games, confirms that the open-world action RPG set in the Harry Potter universe is one of the fastest-selling games in history.
Hogwarts Legacy continues to break records
The game has surpassed the combined sales of established game series like Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, and Horizon, generating over $1 billion in revenue for its publisher. Sales, which were around 34 million in March, increased by another 6 million in just nine months, proving the game’s continued popularity.
Hogwarts Legacy, with its original story set in the wizarding world of the 1800s, immerses players in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a fifth-year student.
In 2023, the game surpassed even the Call of Duty series to become the best-selling game of the year in North America, and it’s now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, older generation consoles, and finally, the Switch 2, which was released in June 2025.
