We’re seeing a new and exciting electric vehicle every day. Today, Honda made a new move. Honda unveiled its new electric vehicle, the N-ONE e, which offers more interior space than expected and a “class-leading” range in its segment. Priced at just over $18,000, this mini EV looks set to make a splash in the market. Here are the details.
Honda N-ONE e, All-Electric
While automotive giants like Volkswagen, Hyundai, Kia, Ford, and GM are working on affordable EV models, Honda has managed to outpace its competitors. Honda unveiled its first light electric vehicle, the N-ONE e, on Thursday. Honda’s second mini-EV, following the N-VAN e launched last year, is designed for passenger transport rather than commercial use.

Based on Honda’s retro-designed, gasoline-powered N-ONE model, this new electric vehicle will go on sale in Japan on September 12th and will start at approximately 2.7 million yen (approximately $18,300).
The N-ONE e features a 29.6 kWh battery, the same as used in the electric van. Honda claims this battery provides a “class-leading” range of up to 295 km (183 miles). This range is even greater than the 180 km (112 miles) offered by the Nissan Sakura, Japan’s best-selling electric vehicle, on the WLTP cycle.

Honda said one of its biggest challenges was providing enough interior space to make the vehicle suitable for daily use. To address this, the company developed a thinner battery pack that fits flat under the floor.
Honda, already the most popular kei car and best-selling vehicle in Japan, believes its new EV can be an even bigger hit. Mini EVs account for approximately 40 percent of new car sales in Japan. With features like increased range and interior space, Honda is counting on its new small EV to stay ahead of the competition.
