Meta-owned Instagram has launched a new video editing app called Edits in a bid to shake TikTok’s lead. Similar to CapCut, this app aims to provide content creators with comprehensive features.
Instagram challenges TikTok’s dominance with Edits
According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, Edits will be more than just a video editor. A special tab in the app will allow you to share an episode with friends to save early-stage ideas.
Creators will also have access to analytics about the performance of their videos. This comes on the back of the ongoing rivalry between Meta and TikTok. Recently, there were reports that Meta had lobbied against TikTok, leading to a temporary ban in the US.
However, this ban was lifted after TikTok’s parent company ByteDance decided to withdraw from the US market instead of selling its operations.
Meta has been working hard to replace Instagram and TikTok, but many creators have expressed their displeasure with the company’s treatment of them. Users complained about issues such as inadequate payment, flagging and censorship, and said they had better experiences on TikTok.
Meta does not want to lose the creators who are the backbone of their platform to benefit from the TikTok ban. The Edits app will be available for free for both Android and iOS users.
