As you know, one of the biggest tests of electric cars is how much range they offer in real road conditions in winter. The annual Winter Range Test in Norway revealed how many electric models from different segments perform in cold weather conditions. In particular, some models offered a range very close to the factory data, while others were far below expectations. Here are the remarkable results…
Tesla and Polestar ahead, VW ID.7 GTX falls short of expectations!
According to the test results, the Tesla Model 3 (LR RWD) promised a range of 702 km according to factory data, but showed a deviation of 24 per cent by offering a range of 531 km in cold weather conditions. While the Polestar 3 entered the test with a range claim of 560 km, it was one of the best performing models with 531 km. Especially reaching the WLTP value with only 5 per cent deviation shows that the vehicle offers a very stable performance in winter conditions.

In addition, some models were very disappointing. The Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer offered a range 23 per cent lower than the factory data and could only travel 440 km. The Peugeot E-3008 was the model with the biggest loss in the list with a deviation of 32 per cent.
How far did which model travel in winter conditions?
- Polestar 3 – 531 km (WLTP: 560 km, 5 per cent deviation)
- Tesla Model 3 LR RWD – 531 km (WLTP: 702 km, 24 per cent deviation)
- Porsche Taycan – 499 km (WLTP: 592 km, 16 per cent deviation)
- Kia EV3 – 499 km (WLTP: 590 km, 15 per cent deviation)
- BYD Tang – 482 km (WLTP: 530 km, 9 per cent deviation)
- Audi Q6 e-tron – 481 km (WLTP: 616 km, 22 per cent deviation)
- VW ID.7 GTX Tourer – 440 km (WLTP: 571 km, 23 per cent deviation)
- Peugeot E-3008 – 347 km (WLTP: 510 km, 32 per cent deviation)
The results proved once again that electric cars may experience more range loss than expected in cold weather conditions. Especially models with high-capacity batteries can offer an acceptable range even in winter.
