With iOS 18.2, Apple Intelligence, Apple’s platform for AI-powered features, now demands more storage. The increases, which come with almost every new update, lead to notable changes, especially for device users with 128 GB storage capacity. So, how much storage space does Apple’s new artificial intelligence platform consume? Details in our news…
Apple Intelligence uses 7 GB of iPhone storage space
First of all, it should be noted that Apple Intelligence, which previously took up 4 GB of space, now requires 7 GB of storage with the latest update. With the iOS 18.2 update, new features such as Image Playground, Genmoji and ChatGPT integration with Siri were introduced.
These new features have increased the storage requirements of Apple Intelligence. For example, on devices such as the iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16, the space used by Apple Intelligence increased from 3% to 5.5% of the device’s total storage capacity. Apple Intelligence is expected to require even more storage in the future.
So, there’s a good chance that in the future Apple will only offer devices with 256 GB or more of storage. In particular, due to the minimum 8 GB RAM requirement, models such as the iPhone 16 and iPhone SE 4 are said to be designed with this requirement in mind.
While it is possible to disable Apple Intelligence, even if the feature is turned off after installation, the storage space allocated by the device may not be recovered. So, users should be more careful about managing AI features.
