Starfield is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of the year. At this point, the game runs well on AMD hardware, thanks to its partnership with Bethesda. However, Nvidia users are not as satisfied with the optimization of the game. While Starfield runs well for many, there is a significant number of users experiencing low FPS issues. But there is a solution for this. Details can be found in our article…
How to solve the Starfield low FPS issue?
Nvidia GPUs are showing unusually low performance in Starfield, and there’s a lack of official support for essential technologies like DLSS. As Nvidia and Bethesda release driver updates and patches over time, things should improve. However, if you don’t want to wait, there is a temporary adjustment you can make on your own, which can provide significant performance boosts for Nvidia users playing Starfield.
The secret is to enable Resizable BAR. Resizable Base Address Register (BAR) is a PCI Express technology, known as Smart Access Memory by AMD, that allows the CPU to access the entire GPU memory, enabling faster data transfers. While not all games benefit from Resizable BAR, some do, and it seems Starfield is one of them.
To make Resizable BAR work in Starfield, there are several steps involved. While it may not be easy for everyone, it’s not overly complex either. Starting on the hardware side, the first step is to ensure that this feature is enabled in your motherboard’s BIOS. On the Intel side, only 10th Gen and 400 series chipsets or newer support Resizable BAR.
After handling the hardware side of things, you can download Nvidia Profile Inspector and make the following adjustments:
- Open Nvidia Profile Inspector.
- Select Starfield from the Profiles drop-down menu.
- Scroll down to the 5th section.
- Set the rBAR feature to “Enabled.”
- Set the rBAR options to “0x00000001.”
- Set the rBAR size limit to “0x0000000040000000.”
- Click “Apply Changes” in the upper right corner.
After applying these changes, you should see an improvement in the low FPS issue in Starfield, at least a slight increase in your FPS. Nvidia will likely resolve all issues with an updated driver over time. However, if you’re looking for a temporary solution, you can apply these settings.
