Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 launch with NearLink tech, dual drivers, and powerful ANC, ready to rival AirPods Pro 3 at a lower price.

Huawei isn’t holding back on audio anymore. The newly launched FreeBuds Pro 5 bring high-end hardware and next-gen connectivity, all aimed directly at the AirPods Pro 3. With support for NearLink, LDAC, and L2HC, Huawei wants to prove that its latest earbuds aren’t just stylish, they’re sonically sharp, too.

NearLink is the star here. When paired with a compatible Huawei device like the MatePad Edge 2-in-1 or the Mate 80 series the FreeBuds Pro 5 can stream audio at up to 4.6 Mbps. That puts standard Bluetooth in the rearview. And if you’re not using a Huawei device, fallback support includes LDAC, L2HC, AAC, and SBC codecs, so quality won’t tank entirely.

Huawei also fitted the FreeBuds Pro 5 with two drivers per bud, enabling clearer highs and deeper lows. Inside is a Kirin A3 chip to handle real-time signal processing, and new ANC tech that promises three times better cancellation than previous generations.

Huawei didn’t stop at sound quality. Here’s what else these earbuds are packing:

    • Dual-driver design per earbud for expanded frequency range
    • NearLink streaming up to 4.6 Mbps on supported devices
    • L2HC, LDAC, AAC, and SBC codec support
    • Kirin A3 chip for real-time audio processing
    • Up to 3x improved ANC over earlier FreeBuds Pro
    • IP57 dust and water resistance rating
    • Four color options at launch

Battery life sits at 5 hours with ANC turned on a number that won’t impress heavy users, especially considering many rivals now push past 6 or even 8 hours. Still, for pure sound fidelity, the tradeoff may be worth it.

Priced at CNY 1,449 (around $205), the FreeBuds Pro 5 come in cheaper than Apple’s AirPods Pro 3. While global availability remains unconfirmed, Huawei is clearly positioning these earbuds as a premium alternative that doesn’t require a luxury tax.

With NearLink exclusive to Huawei gear for now, the FreeBuds Pro 5 double as a loyalty reward. Own a Mate 80? You’ll get more bandwidth. Still using an older device? You’re not locked out, but you won’t be getting the best version either. Huawei knows that control over ecosystems builds stickier customers and these earbuds play right into that strategy.
