Huawei is preparing to rival Android and iOS with its HarmonyOS Next operating system. HarmonyOS, which currently uses Android infrastructure, will become completely independent with the new version. Finally, the release date of HarmonyOS Next was leaked.
HarmonyOS Next is coming with Huawei Mate 70
According to a new rumor, Huawei could launch HarmonyOS Next in September. This update, which will be the company’s next-generation operating system, will represent a first in that it will be completely independent of Android. However, this means that Android compatibility will end.
The rumored launch of HarmonyOS Next coincides with the Huawei Mate 70 series. This suggests that the company could unveil both the new flagship and the new operating system.
Huawei cannot get Google and Android licenses because of the US embargo. But the HarmonyOS and EMIU systems already on the market are based on Android open source code. HarmonyOS Next was developed from scratch independently of Android.
Therefore, support for Android apps will end. However, it should be noted that hundreds of applications will continue to be officially downloadable via Huawei AppGallery. The Next version will ensure the company’s complete independence from American technologies.
The company said that more than 4,000 apps have been optimized for HarmonyOS and is targeting 500,000 apps by next year. Some categories such as entertainment, finance, transportation and shopping are said to be prioritized.
