As of the other day, Apple made the iPhone 15 series available for purchase at Apple Stores. While there is a high demand for new devices in many parts of the world from the US to China, the curious question of this year was the USB-C port. Can USB-C cables from brands such as Huawei, Honor Xiaomi, Vivo and Realme be used on the iPhone 15 series?
Can the USB-C cables from Android devices be used with the iPhone 15?
Recent tests in China have revealed the compatibility of the iPhone 15 Pro’s USB-C port. The device was tested with chargers from Chinese manufacturers.
The results showed that chargers from brands such as Vivo, iQOO, OnePlus, Realme and Xiaomi supported the PD 3.0 protocol and could charge the iPhone to full capacity. Interestingly, Huawei and Honor’s chargers did not power the iPhone 15 Pro.
After further testing, it turned out that the problem wasn’t with the Huawei and Honor chargers. Sources stated that the iPhone 15 Pro could not be charged with these brands’ cables. When a different USB-C cable was used instead of Huawei/Honor, the device could be powered.
This oddity caused controversy on social media. Some users speculated that Huawei and Honor might be using proprietary protocols that are not compatible with Apple devices. Others said that Huawei was deliberately restricting Apple’s compatibility as a result of tensions between the US and China.
It’s unclear for now whether Huawei and Honor have imposed any Apple-specific restrictions on their USB-C cables. In addition, it turns out that Oppo only supports USB-DCP. This means a very low power of 1.5 A.
