Huawei has quietly given its MateBook Fold a new look six months after its original debut. While it’s not a spec overhaul, the update introduces a bold new finish, expanding options for one of the most premium foldable laptops on the market. The price? A hefty CNY 26,999 (~$3,815), justified by its top-tier configuration: 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage.
Huawei MateBook Fold adds new red color for 2TB model

The original MateBook Fold launched in black, blue, and white, each paired with matching keyboard accessories and a large 18-inch flexible OLED screen. But only the black version came with the maxed-out 2TB storage. That’s now changed.
Huawei has added a new deep red variant translating loosely to “Ruihong” to the 2TB lineup. It’s the same color featured on the Mate X7 and Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design, suggesting a unified design language across Huawei’s most expensive devices.
Notably, the other colors Cloud Water Blue and The Sky is White remain limited to lower 1TB configurations.
A foldable laptop that leans more Lenovo than Asus
The MateBook Fold aligns closer to the ThinkPad X1 Fold than the Asus Zenbook Duo in terms of concept. It’s a single flexible display, not a dual-screen setup, folding down into a book-style form factor with full keyboard support. Huawei has stuck with the same internals from the original model, meaning this refresh is purely cosmetic.
No updates to display tech, performance, or port layout have been mentioned.
Still no sign of a global MateBook Fold launch
Despite its price and unique form, Huawei hasn’t brought the MateBook Fold to international markets and this update doesn’t change that. It’s unclear why the brand chose to delay the release of the Ruihong variant for six months, especially when other flagship devices received it earlier.
For now, the new MateBook Fold remains a China-only luxury item, appealing more to collectors and early adopters than the mass market.
Premium look, premium price, limited reach
Huawei’s Ruihong refresh gives the MateBook Fold a bit more flair, but at nearly $4,000, it’s still playing in a niche corner of the laptop world. Without a global release, it risks becoming more of a statement piece than a serious contender. Still, for those who value aesthetic unity across high-end tech, this red foldable might just complete the set.
