Huawei achieved record revenue by selling 45 million smartphones in 2024 after years of difficulties with US sanctions. The company’s annual financial results will be released soon, and its revenue for 2024 is expected to be exactly 860 billion yuan (about $ 118 billion).
Huawei sold 45 million smartphones in 2024
Huawei faced a serious crisis in 2020, with the US restricting access to advanced technology and 5G-enabled chips, and company officials described the situation as a ‘struggle for survival’. However, Huawei managed to overcome the difficult period by turning to new areas such as software, chip production and smart driving technologies.

In the last few years, Huawei has found new sources of income by cooperating more closely with state-sponsored companies against US sanctions. In a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in May, the company’s founder Ren Zhengfei said that the country’s concerns about domestic chips and software had diminished.
Although no detailed explanation was made about Huawei’s revenue sources, it was also confirmed that there was growth in the consumer electronics division and rapid expansion in the automotive sector. Reports indicate that the company shipped more than 45 million smartphones in 2024, marking an increase of at least 25 per cent compared to the previous year.
After the restrictions imposed by the US, Huawei has entered new business areas such as building 5G infrastructure and providing energy storage systems for data centres. It also developed its own operating system, HarmonyOS, after losing access to Google’s Android operating system and Oracle’s software.
After limiting access to semiconductor technology, Huawei designed its own advanced technology chips to compete with Nvidia in artificial intelligence hardware. In the automotive sector, it has become a leader in autonomous driving technologies.
The company wants to add new ones to these achievements in the coming period. So what do you think about this issue? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
