One of Huawei’s strongest contenders in the wearables market, the Huawei Watch 5, has received a massive update that takes the user experience to the next level. The HarmonyOS 6.0 (v6.0.0.119) version, which is being rolled out gradually to global users, introduces 16 new improvements and features that transform the smartwatch.
At approximately 2.58 GB, this comprehensive update is more than just a “software patch”; it touches every aspect of the watch, from the interface and health tracking to personalization options and ecosystem compatibility.
A Visual Revolution and New Watch Faces
With HarmonyOS 6, the Huawei Watch 5 takes on a much more dynamic and modern identity. One of the standout aspects of the update is the new watch faces that allow users to reflect their personal style:
- Sticker Fun: Featuring three different layouts, this interface allows you to display up to five visuals simultaneously for a fully personalized look.
- Cute Pet Huahua: This interactive watch face reflects the user’s current emotional state and provides different reactions when the screen is tapped.
- Modules 2025: This face allows you to mix and match widgets of different sizes and enables quick switching between theme colors.
Innovations Focused on Emotional Health and Quality of Life
Huawei is not limiting health tracking to just physical data. The revamped Emotional Wellbeing app can recognize 12 different emotional states based on stress levels and mood. Additionally, guided breathing exercises within the app make daily stress management easier.
Other key features enhancing user comfort include:
- Tap-to-Wake: Waking the screen is now easier. This feature, which can be activated in settings, provides quick access without needing a wrist gesture.
- Advanced Alarm Controls: You can now customize vibration intensity for alarms or silence a ringing alarm simply by covering the screen with your palm.
- Music News for iOS Users: iPhone users can now transfer music files directly to their watch via the Huawei Health app (v16.0 and above).
Performance and System Enhancements
System-wide optimizations are particularly noticeable in Power Saving Mode and the Settings menu. Support for more app icons in the notification panel makes identifying message sources easier at a glance. Additionally, the quick settings menu—accessed by swiping right on the workout screen—makes managing volume or reminders during exercise much more practical.
On the calendar side, users can now access a calendar map via the “Today” assistant, in addition to week and month views, bringing professional-level schedule management to the smartwatch.
