China-based robotics company Unitree is ushering in a new era in humanoid robot technology. The company’s G1 model robots will enter the ring in the world’s first humanoid robot boxing match to be held in Hangzhou, China, on May 25.
Humanoid robots will enter the ring for the boxing match
The event, which will take place at the Mech Combat Arena, will be broadcast live worldwide by China Media Group (CMG). In the promotional show held before the event, the G1 robots made one-on-one presentations to students at a school in Hangzhou.

Not only the fighting skills of the robots, but also their endurance were showcased. The 40-minute non-stop running performance attracted great attention in the gym. This show also served as a kind of stress test before the upcoming match.
The control system of the robots in the ring is provided by three different methods. Chu Yang from Unitree Robotics’ Marketing Team said that the robots are controlled with a simple remote control. However, it was stated that two new control mechanisms will be used in the match in addition to this method.
The robot boxing match will consist of two main parts. The first stage will feature performance matches. Here, robots will showcase their skills individually and in groups. The second stage will move to a tournament format. People in the operator position will compete for first place by directing the robots in real time.
The event is of great importance not only as a sports competition, but also in terms of developing data collection and human movement imitation capabilities in robotics. So what do you think about this? You can share your views with us in the comments section below.
