As electric vehicles become increasingly widespread, steps are continuously being taken to expand their presence. Starting with Tesla, the shift to electric motors in commercial vehicles is being followed by other car manufacturers. Hyundai has also announced that it is working on its first fully electric minivan model. Here are the details and expectations.
Hyundai Staria Electric Minivan to be Introduced in 2025
In 2021, Hyundai introduced the Staria model as the successor to the Starex for multipurpose vehicle use. The Staria was offered in minivan, minibus, van, pickup, and other options, initially available only in diesel and gasoline variants, with a hybrid engine option added in February.
With recent official announcements, Hyundai confirmed that the company will introduce its first electric minivan, the Staria Electric, next year. Production of the Staria Electric could begin as early as January.
Hyundai is already producing gasoline and hybrid versions of the Staria at its Ulsan plant in Korea. The company has now announced plans to start producing the electric version soon and aims to unveil 21 electric vehicles by 2030. Hyundai also targets nearly 2 million sales and plans to begin production of the Staria in Europe in the first half of 2026. It is expected that 15,000 to 20,000 units of the Staria EV will be sold annually. The Staria Electric will be powered by Hyundai’s 84kWh EV battery.
