Hyundai Motor Group has taken a striking step in the field of robotics by signing a large-scale production partnership with Boston Dynamics, which it owns. The South Korean-based automotive giant will integrate Boston Dynamics’ humanoid robots into its production processes and purchase tens of thousands of robots from the company. The agreement will be a first in terms of direct integration of robotic technologies into the industry.
Hyundai to integrate robots into the production process
Hyundai announced a new $21 billion investment package in order to accelerate its investments in the US. $6 billion of this budget was allocated to innovation and strategic partnerships. This new agreement with Boston Dynamics was implemented within this scope.

Hyundai’s main goal is to both increase efficiency and create a new industry standard that supports human power by integrating robotic technologies into production lines. The company initiated its strategic move in the field of robotics by purchasing Boston Dynamics from SoftBank for $880 million in 2021.
Since then, Boston Dynamics’ four-legged Spot robots have been used for industrial maintenance and inspection purposes in Hyundai facilities. With the new agreement, this area of use will expand and the humanoid robot Atlas will also enter the field.
Boston Dynamics has started testing the new Atlas model, the electric version of which was introduced in April 2024, at Hyundai facilities as of 2025. The new Atlas has a structure that is stronger and has a wider range of motion compared to the previous hydraulic versions.
By including robotic hand systems, Atlas is aimed to adapt to many sectors. The company’s goal is not only in production areas; we can say that these robots are included in the workforce in many areas from logistics to health, from the service sector to security.
