The countdown has begun for the popular social media application TikTok. If a new licensing agreement is not reached with Universal Music Group by January 31, music for TikTok will stop. Universal will even pull its songs from the popular social media app once the current deal expires. Here are the details…
If no agreement is reached, TikTok will be left without music!
TikTok without music sounds pretty weird. However, if TikTok and Universal Music Group cannot reach a licensing agreement again, users will experience this. Because the company will remove its popular songs from TikTok.
Universal Music Group (UMG) claimed that TikTok was trying to negotiate a deal worth less than its previous arrangement. He even accused the popular social media giant of bullying. Of course, this is not the only problem. Artist compensation and artificial intelligence also stand in the way of a new deal.
UMG made a statement on the issue. “The companies have not agreed to the terms of a new agreement. Upon expiration of the current agreement, Universal Music Group, including Universal Music Publishing Group, will cease licensing content.”
There are very popular names among the artists in Universal Music Group companies. Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Sting, The Weeknd, Alicia Keys, SZA, Steve Lacy, Drake, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Rosalía, Harry Styles, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Adele, U2, Elton work with Universal Music Group. If an agreement is not reached, TikTok will be deprived of the songs of these artists.
TikTok is based on viral videos using popular music. That’s why TikTok attaches great importance to the licensing agreements it makes with record companies.
