Image-sharing platform Imgur has completely blocked access to users in the UK. This decision comes after the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the country’s data regulator, warned the company of a potential fine.
According to a statement on Imgur’s help page, as of September 30, 2025, UK users will no longer be able to log in to the platform, view content, or upload new images. Furthermore, Imgur content can no longer be viewed embedded on third-party sites like Reddit. UK users attempting to access the site are met with a “Content not available in your region” warning.
The company did not explain the reason for the block. However, the ICO had previously informed Imgur’s parent company, MediaLab, that it could be fined as part of an investigation into the use of children’s data and age verification measures. The UK began investigating Imgur, TikTok, and Reddit’s compliance with online safety laws last March.

Imgur has not issued a statement
The ICO emphasized that its findings against Imgur are “provisional” and that all of MediaLab’s statements will be evaluated before a final fine decision is made. Tim Capel, the ICO’s interim executive director, said, “Withdrawing from the UK does not absolve an organization of its liability for past data protection breaches.” Capel also emphasized that the investigation into Imgur is ongoing.
This decision by Imgur has suspended access to the platform for millions of users in the country. The company has not yet responded to press reports.
