Meta, one of the world’s largest technology and social media giants, has drawn attention in court with the advertising revenue of its popular platform Instagram. Continuously facing legal challenges, Meta has once again come into the spotlight due to the documents presented in court. On Friday, in the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) case, it was revealed from the submitted documents that the advertising revenue of the social media platform surpassed that of YouTube.
Instagram’s advertising revenue has exceeded $32 billion!
In the document presented by Meta in court to refute monopoly allegations made by the FTC on Friday, it was revealed how much advertising revenue Instagram has generated in recent years. According to the document, Instagram has been earning more revenue than YouTube in recent years.
In reports released yesterday, Meta announced that it earned $40.1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2023. The company, which earned a total of $134.9 billion last year, revealed through court documents the amount it earned from the advertising revenue of its popular social media platform in 2021.
In 2021, Instagram generated $32.4 billion in advertising revenue, surpassing YouTube’s $28.8 billion in the same year. This increase in advertising revenue for the company, which earned $22 billion and $17.9 billion in 2020 and 2019 respectively, was also a notable topic in court.
During the same years, YouTube generated revenues of $19.7 billion and $15.1 billion, respectively. It’s important to note that fifty-five percent of YouTube’s advertising revenue is distributed to content creators.
