Instagram will limit sensitive content for teen users

Instagram is one of the largest social media platforms. That’s why it is trying to protect its users from sensitive content, especially teens. The company launched the “Sensitive Content Control” feature on Instagram in July 2021. Now, the social media platform is expanding this feature. Here are the details about Instagram limits.

Instagram will restrict sensitive content for new teen users

The platform will default accounts for new users under 16 years old to “Less”, which is the most restrictive setting for the security feature. Instagram launched its “Less” option in June. Then, it introduced another feature to change teenagers’ content if they look only one particular topic. Now, it will be default the “Less” option for teen users while users over 18 years old have access to “Standard,” “Less,” and “More.”

This “Less” option will affect the type of content teenagers see on Instagram. It will change Search, Reels, suggested accounts, hashtags, and in-feed recommendations. The platform will also ask all teen users to choose a “settings check-up” and limit who can share their content, direct message them and what kind of content they can see. They will also be able to limit the amount of time they spend on the social media application.

Instagram says, “We’re continuously developing controls to help people personalize their experience on Instagram. Last summer, we launched the Sensitive Content Control so people could choose how much or how little sensitive content to see in Explore from accounts they don’t follow. Today, we’re announcing updates to this control.”

The new features will protect teenagers from and sensitive content like sex workers, tattoo artists, and the cannabis industry. In the Help Center, Instagram describes what it sees as sensitive content, including posts with the depiction of violence or sexual or suggestive, promoting regulated products and substances, and more.
