WhatsApp is adding the resharing option to status updates, a common feature on social media platforms like Instagram. This new feature began rolling out to users with the 2.25.27.5 beta version released for Android.
Resharing option added to statuses
This update, distributed through the Google Play Beta Program, allows users to choose who can reshare their status posts. The feature is currently available to some beta testers and will be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks.

WhatsApp is making it easier to reshare status updates with this feature, previously known to be in development. Users can now choose whether to allow their posts to be reshared by others with a new option in the drawing editor screen while creating their statuses.
When the resharing feature is enabled, those who can see the status can repost the same content to their own statuses, thus spreading the content to a wider audience. However, to prevent any misunderstandings, WhatsApp adds a clear label to reshared statuses.
This new feature is disabled by default and only activated if the content owner consents. This restriction prevents users’ posts from being shared by others without their knowledge.
Furthermore, WhatsApp does not transfer the original content’s personal information in reshared content. The sender’s phone number or other identifying information is protected during sharing. This new option operates similarly to message forwarding, but offers more flexibility.
