Meta, the parent company of Instagram, recently announced that the platform will now offer real-time translation support for direct messages (DMs). Users can easily translate messages into their preferred languages, eliminating language barriers. Here are the details of the new feature.
Instagram takes messaging to the next level with instant translation feature!
With this feature, users can long-press a message to open a menu and select the “Translate” option to translate text into their own languages. The translation will be powered by Meta’s AI-based translation systems, meaning there is no need to repeatedly click the button as the text will be translated automatically.

A screenshot shared with the feature highlights that message translations will be processed by Meta’s servers. According to Meta, personal information such as names and dates will be filtered and protected during translation. However, users who are concerned about security can still use external translation tools like Google Translate as an alternative.
Currently, the instant translation feature is only available for Android users. There is no information yet on when it will be available for iPhone (iOS) users. Additionally, the feature is not available on the desktop version, and there is no timeline for its release there either.
This innovation makes Instagram more accessible globally, enabling users who speak different languages to communicate more easily with each other. For businesses, this feature will facilitate cross-border trade by allowing companies to communicate instantly with foreign customers and speed up sales processes.
It is expected that similar translation support will also be introduced on other Meta messaging platforms like WhatsApp in the future. For now, this feature is exclusive to Instagram.
