Social media platforms have started placing more emphasis on short videos following the success of TikTok. Instagram introduced Reels videos as its response to TikTok, and these videos have quickly gained a large user base and continue to receive new features.
Instagram Reels videos can now be downloaded
With its new feature, Instagram will now allow the downloading of Reels videos published by others, enabling users to share the downloaded Reels videos outside of the app. As you may know, TikTok has been offering this feature for a while, and it quickly gained popularity with the TikTok logo appearing in the videos.
On Tuesday, the company’s CEO, Adam Mosseri, announced that US-based users will now be able to download Reels videos. Users can tap on the share icon, then choose the “Download” option to save the videos to their devices and share them on different platforms.
Mosseri added that this feature is only available for Reels videos on public accounts. It was also mentioned that users with public accounts can disable the Reels download feature. Along with his statement, Mosseri shared a visual image.
The image shared by Mosseri reveals that the downloaded video will include the account name along with an Instagram logo. Previously, Instagram allowed Reels users to download their own prepared videos. Now, with the added watermark, other users can also download the videos.
Reels videos have become Meta’s fastest-growing service in recent times. Mark Zuckerberg, during the first-quarter meeting of 2023, revealed that time spent on Instagram has increased by 24% due to AI-powered Reels recommendations.
By adding the ability to download Reels videos, Instagram aims to reach even more users. What are your thoughts on downloading Reels videos? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
