Instagram may be preparing for a big change that will excite users who love short videos. In fact, it is claimed that the company is considering separating Reels videos from the main app and turning them into a standalone platform. This move aims to improve the user experience. So what is the reason for this change? Here are the details…
Meta is working on a separate app for Reels
Meta is considering turning Instagram Reels into a standalone app to further increase interest in the short video format. According to The Information, Instagram President Adam Mosseri discussed this project with employees within the company.

Codenamed “Project Ray,” this initiative aims to offer better video recommendations, especially for new and existing users in the US. It is also among the planned innovations that Reels content will be extended to three minutes.
Instagram currently offers photos, stories, and Reels videos on a single platform. However, many users believe that the app is becoming increasingly complex and has lost its identity as a photo-sharing platform. Turning Reels into a standalone app could help Instagram return to its roots.
Meta wants to take advantage of TikTok’s uncertain future to gain a stronger position in the market. Last month, the company announced a new app called “Edits” to compete with TikTok’s video editing app CapCut. It is also known to make large payments to encourage content creators to share exclusive content on Reels.
If Reels becomes a standalone app, Instagram could simplify the user experience and create a more private space for Reels creators. However, it is a matter of curiosity how this new app will be received by users.
